WERTZ, Mary Agnes Bondurant, 81, of Roanoke County, passed away at her home on Thursday, January 1, 1998. She was born in Roanoke on August 28, 1916. Agnes graduated from Jefferson High School and worked as a legal secretary for several years. On September 4, 1936, she married Joe Wertz and they worked side-by-side on their Roanoke County farm raising and marketing fruits, vegetables, and, in recent years, plants and flowers. A life-long member of First Baptist Church, Agnes was active in the Friendship Bible Class, served in Training Union, and was a loyal supporter of the church's various activities. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a godly and faithful woman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Levi Joseph Wertz; and two brothers, Glenn Bondurant and Earl Bondurant. She is survived by her son, Daniel Wertz and wife, Geneva, of Bowie, Maryland; her daughter, Dorothy Baldwin and husband, Gary, of Roanoke County; her son, Kenneth Wertz and wife, Marla, of Raleigh, N.C.; three grandsons, Michael Baldwin and wife, Pam, of Richmond, Va., Jeffrey Wertz and wife, Kathy, of Roanoke County, Matthew Wertz of Raleigh, N.C.; and a granddaughter, Whitney Wertz of Raleigh, N.C.; former daughter-in-law, Sharon Wertz of Raleigh, N.C.; a great-grandson, Matthew Condrey; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Condrey, both of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Helen Beach and husband, James B. of Goodview; a brother, Curtis Bondurant and wife, Marilyn, of Hardy; a sister-in-law, Margaret Bondurant; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 5, 1998, at First Baptist Church in the former sanctuary at 1 p.m. D r. Charles G. Fuller will officiate with interment to follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Lotz Salem Chapel on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
