Wayne Croft, 74, of Springfield died 11:51 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) in Memorial Medical Center.
Services will be noon Wednesday in Staab Funeral Home, Springfield. Visitation was Tuesday. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites conducted by Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail. Memorials: Knox Presbyterian Church or National Kidney Foundation.
Mr. Croft was born Nov. 29, 1926, in Springfield, the son of John and Sylvia Bogg Croft. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, past president and past secretary of Grain Millers Local 24, former Democratic precinct committeeman, American Legion Post 32 and Fraternal Order of the Eagles 437. He was an Army veteran who served during World War II reconstruction. He retired from Pillsbury Mills and was a doorman for the House of Representatives.
He married Mary Agnes Gronewold Aug. 5, 1950. She preceded him in death Oct. 26, 1996.
Surviving are his daughters, Mary (Richard) Rogers of Rochester; Barb (Alan) Salm of Sherman; Debbie Slingerland of Decatur; grandchildren, Shelly Caswell, Nathan Hasselbring, Shana Wellhausen, Erin Salm, Ashley Salm, Jenny Slingerland and Katie Slingerland; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsey Caswell and A.J. South; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brothers, Harold and James Croft.
