Notes |
- The Marshall Republican, February 25, 1910
JAMES F. VERTS, one of Saline's old and substantial farmers, died at his home north of Nelson on Feb. 10th, of congestion of the brain, aged 56 years.
Mr. Verts was a good man, very religious, and always friendly and cordial. He had a nice home on his farm and the editor had a pleasant visit at his home several months ago. He told us that he was feeling better then, but had suffered considerably the past year or so being at the point of death at times. He claimed, and thoroughly believed, that he had been permitted to go to heaven during one of his very sick spells and described his stay there in every detail, believing that his soul had left its earthly home and returned to the body. We will not say whether he was right or wrong in his idea, but his illness would explain his reason for his belief. He was one of the largest men in the county weighing about 350 pounds.
He is survived by his wife and son, as well as five brothers and four sisters most of them residing in and near Nelson.
Mr. Verts was prepared for the call to the next world if ever anyone was and his life ought to be and no doubt was, an inspiration to those who knew him well.
His funeral was conducted at the Methodist church Saturday following his death by Rev. C. Q. Shouse and attended very largely.
