COBEY FREDERICKA RAINEY COBEY October 13, 1906November 4, 2008 Fredericka, aged 102, died peacefully at the home of her daughter in California. Fredericka was born in New York City and raised in Maplewood, New Jersey. She graduated from Radciffe College in 1927 and from Johns Hopkins Medical School in 1937. Between college and medical school she was a newspaper reporter in Washington D.C, working for U.S. News and World Report and the Haskins Information Service. She married fellow doctor Milton Cobey M.D. in 1938 and they settled in Washington D.C where Milton became Professor of Orthopedics at Georgetown Medical School. Fredericka was on the boards of numerous charities but her special love was the National Symphony Orchestra. Fredericka enjoyed traveling and spending summers at the family home on Cape Cod. Fredericka is survived by her daughters Fredericka Cobey of Mill Valley, California and Elizabeth Cobey of Richmond, California, and her son James Cobey and his wife Jan Heinrich Cobey of Washington D.C. She is also survived by her grandchildren Frederick Cobey and his wife Heather Silverberg, Laura Cobey and her husband Luc Derrendinger, Abigail Cobey and her husband Ethan Novick, and Jeneen Khattar and her husband David Terdiman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders P.O. Box 5022, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or American Red Cross of the National Capital Area, 8550 Arlington Blvd, Fairfax, VA 22031. Services will be held Saturday, November 22, 11 a.m., at Durham Church, 8685 Ironsides Road, Nanjemoy MD.
