- Ellen Louise (Cooper) Young, 86, of Parsons, died at 1:35 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the home of her daughter, Marsha Hambleton, in Parsons.
She was born June 9, 1927 at Parsons, Kansas, the daughter of the Reverend Lloyd J. and Dottie G. (Woodman) Cooper.
She lived in Parsons until moving with her family to Oklahoma where her father was a Cumberland Presbyterian Church minister. During those years, they lived in Muskogee, Oklahoma and then Helena, Oklahoma. She graduated from high school at Goltry, Oklahoma.
She was united in marriage to Paul L. Young on August 25, 1950 at Nash, Oklahoma. Her father officiated their wedding. Following their marriage, they lived in Wichita, Kansas for several years.
In 1967, they moved to Parsons where she worked for a time at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in the 1970s.
She was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Parsons and had taught Sunday School there. She had been active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and McCune Lady Lions Club as well as home demonstration unit.
She was an avid Bingo and Mexican Train Dominoes player and also enjoyed word search books.
Her husband, Paul passed away on March 3, 2006.
Survivors include, two sons, Paul S. Young and his wife, Jane, Scammon, KS, and Mark A. Young of Wichita, Kansas, two daughters, Marsha A. Hambleton and her husband Steve of Parsons, Kansas and Sue E. Young of Wichita, Kansas, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one step great grandson, and one brother, Gene L. Cooper of Newcomerstown, Ohio.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one great grandson.
