- Will of Jesse Colbert (Will Book C, Page 342 - September 22, 1899):
I Jesse Colbert of Loudoun County Virginia, do make and establish this my last Will and Testament.
I desire and direct that all my estate, real and personal, except the "Carlisle Farm" shall go to my wif, Christina S. Colbert, during her life, the proceeds of income from same to be used by her for the prper maintenance and support of herself and our daughter, Martha Ann Colbert, and to keep the property in repair, but any surplus above what may be used for said purpose in any year shall be equally distributed among my children, the portion of any who hae died go their heirs equally. I hereby direct that my son, Clarksen T. Colbert, have general charge and management of said estate for his mother. At her death the whole estate above-named to be equally distributed. I further direct that the above-named "Carlisle Farm", shall remain in possession of my son-in-law, James Carlisle, during his lifetime, he to pay, as rent therefor, a sum equal to the interest on the amount of money I have invested in said farm, but his failure to pay such rent shall no forfeit to him the possession of the farm, and the unpaid rent or interest shall be added ot the principle and the whole sum thus-the sum of one hundred dollars with its interest to be paid to my daughter, Susan Carlisle, it being the amount I borrowed from her in purchasing said farm. 22nd day of September 1899.
