      Deceased Name: Wesley H. Wertz

      80, of St. Charles, died Saturday (Oct. 5, 2002) at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles.
      Dr. Wertz was a retired veterinarian who practiced in St. Charles from 1949 to 1991. In 1953, he was called to active duty and served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force until 1955. In 1957 he formed a partnership with Dr. James H. Evans. Dr. Wertz served as president of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association as well as a delegate to the American Veterinary Medical Association and five years on the Council of Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
      He was named Veterinarian of the Year in 1966 and was a charter member of the St. Charles Chapter of Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. He served as a merit badge counselor and as district chairman for the Daniel Boone District of Boy Scouts of America, served on the personnel committee for the Police and Fire Board for the city of St. Charles and served on the Advisory Board of Directors of the Salvation Army of St. Charles County.
      He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Moolah Temple and Daniel Boone Shrine Club. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in St. Charles, where he had sung with the church choir for 40 years.
      Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson Street, St. Charles. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 801 First Capitol Drive, St. Charles. Burial will be Wesleyan Methodist Cemetery on Boone's Lick Road, St. Charles.
      Among the survivors are his wife, Betty Stewart Wertz of St. Charles; a daughter, Christine Wertz of Green Bay, Wis.; a son, Richard S. Wertz of Liberty, Mo.; a sister, Kathryn Wertz of Hodgenville, Ky.; and four grandchildren.
      Memorial contributions can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children; the Salvation Army of St. Charles County; First United Methodist Church (St. Charles) or Kansas State University School of Veterinary Medicine in care of Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson Street, St. Charles, Mo. 63301.
