Notes |
- Kansas City Star, The (MO) - Thursday, April 26, 2007
Nancy May Hackley Brann, 90 years old, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Martin Hackley and Carrie Estella Preuitt Hackley and her brother, Billy "Cotton" Hackley. Also was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Pat Brann. Nancy was born in Higginsville, Mo and graduated from Higginsville High School class of 1936. She had attended most of the class reunions and the last one she attended was in 2006 for their 70th class reunion. It was a very special day for all of the attendees, most of them being in there 90's. She enjoyed that day. Nancy was a runner up in the 1936 KC Jubilesta that was held at the new Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City. She had worked at the ASC office in Higginsville shortly after graduation. Nancy was on her way to Colorado for a vacation trip with several of her girlfriends when she met her future husband on the bus trip. Pat was on a furlough from the army, on his way to see his brother in Colorado. They exchanged names and addresses and started writing, then Nancy invited Pat to come to Higginsville on his next furlough, so he did and the rest is history. They were married in Lexington, Mo on July 26, 1941. Pat had to go back to the army (we were in World War II) at the time. He had orders to go oversees. He was back once for another furlough before coming home for good in 1945 after the war ended. Nancy stayed in Higginsville until his return, then they moved to Kansas City. Nancy was a stay at home mom until her children were teens. Then she went to work for the KC School District as a Secretary to the Principals at several different schools in the area. She retired in 1988 after 20 years of service to them. She enjoyed her job for the schools. She was a past president of the PTA organization. She was an active member of the NKC 1st Christian Church up until 1999. Even after not being able to attend, she was still a supporter of the church. Nancy enjoyed making jewelry for herself and as gifts to her friends and family. She studied her genealogy and loved history and biographies. We will remember her for her great love of books which she passed down to her children, the thrill she got from traveling and her love of antiques. Nancy is survived by Bill L. Brann her son, Cassandra A. Brann her daughterin-law, Benjamin A. Brann, Nicholas A. Brann, and Scarlett A. Brann her grandchildren from Lansing Michigan and Dylan P. Brann and Kaitlyn M. Brann from Erie, PA and by Linda Sue "Suzy" Brann Adams, her daughter from North Kansas City, Mo. Services will be held at the Newcomer's White Chapel at 6600 N. Antioch, in Gladstone, Mo. on Saturday, April 28, 2007. Visitation will be 10:30am to 11:30am. Funeral service will begin at 11:30am. Graveside service and burial will be in Higginsville, Mo at the City Cemetery.
