- Mary Fair Welch of Willcox died March 21, 2013 in Tucson at the age of 76. She was born in Willcox on November 8, 1936 to Noel B. and Carrie Alice Rhyne Whitmire. Mary owned and operated her own day care in Silver City, New Mexico and was retired from the State of Arizona working for DES. On August 27, 1986 in Safford, Arizona she married Norman Welch, Sr. who survives her. Also surviving are daughters Thelma Fawcett of Tucson and Diane King of Spokane, Washington and grandchildren Christa ( Bret) Leatherwood, Wesley Fawcett, Julianne (Tom) Watson, Jesse (Suzanne) Steinfort, Josh (Kayleen Smith) King, Marion Jay (Kendra) Lee, John Dwight Lee and Jennie Jo (Tyler) Dixon and 15 great grandchildren. Mary is survived by her step children; Sherry Forester of Jacksonville, Texas, Jeannie (Daniel) VanDerMeulen of Willcox and Norman Welch, Jr. of Tucson and step grandchildren Holly (Lester) Alexander, Jennifer (Michael) Ruiz, Lindsey Forester, Stacy Green and Kristy Johnson and 14 step great grandchildren. Her sister Ruth Lee of Las Cruces, New Mexico and brother James Whitmire of Safford, Arizona also survive her. Preceded her in death was her 1st husband Jay Fair, a son Robert Jay Fair and her brother's Noel Whitmire and Frank Whitmire. A visitation will start at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Westlawn Chapel with funeral services beginning at 11:00 A.M. at Westlawn Chapel. Burial will follow in the Safford Union Cemetery in Safford, Arizona.
