Mary Anne Payne, daughter of the Reverend T. D. and Eliza Baxter Rodgers Payne, was born at Lebanon, Missouri, on October 21, 1869. She graduated, with honors, from Scarritt Collegiate Institute in 1892. For six years she taught in the public schools of Missouri, the last of these years in the Oak Grove school. In 1898 she was married in Herndon, Missouri, to Dr. A. W. Mann, who died in 1934. Their interests were centered in the church and community, and to these they gave their best endeavors. She served the Methodist church: as president of the Women's Missionary Society, for 13 years; president of the Willing Workers' class and in charge of the children's division of the Sunday School for several years. She was also the first president of the Oak Grove Women's Civic League. She was known as a gifted reader, especially of scripture. Since 1947 she has resided with her daughter, Mrs. Wesley C. Davis, 3332 Milton St., Dallas, Texas. She is survived by her daughter; a sister, Mrs. D. M. Webb, Kansas City, Missouri; and a grandson, Walter W. Davis, Middletown, Ohio.
Services were held at her old home - the Webb Funeral Home, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 with Reverend Joe Pritchett of Independence in charge. He was assisted by Reverend H. B. Davis and Reverend Raymond Rumbo of Versailles. Mrs. Ferne Church sang "All Hail the Power" and How Firm a Foundation." Mrs. Anna Robinson was the organist.
Pall bearers were Paul B. George, Kansas City, Youree Adair, Odessa; Beryl Webb, L.I. George, Harry Moore and Richard Moore. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery.
Reverend and Mrs. Wesley Davis, who accompanied the body here returned that evening for Dallas.
