Mrs. Dorothy Etta Nokes, 76, of 2215 Kaetzel Road, Knoxville, died Wednesday Feb. 5, at the Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W. Va. She was born in Brunswick on Sept. 22, 1915, a daughter of the late Stanley Virts and Mazie Longerbean Virts. She was a member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren and the Golden Rule Fellowship. She was also a member of the church Kitchen Committee, the Pleasant Valley Ruritan Club, Ladies Auxiliary, the Pleasant Valley Senior Citizens Association; the Valley Sisters; the Brunswick Ambulance Ladies Auxiliary and the Pochahontas Tippecanoe 100 Club of Frederick. She is survived by her husband, James A. Nokes; a daughter, Sylvia D. Mullenix of Knoxville; a son, James L. Nokes of Knoxville; a sister Marie Jarvis of Buckeystown; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Vincent P. Nokes. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. There will also be a viewing at the church an hour before the services. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, with her pastor the Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Old Brownsville Cemetery.
