He also retired as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Air Force Reserve after 28 years of service. He was a member of the Fort Worth Aerospace Optimist Club. He was a graduate of North Texas State University and had further studies at the University of Dallas. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth.
