      E. Gerold "Jerry" Beman, 75, Bradenton, died Jan. 21, 2002.

      He was born Dec. 26, 1926, in Ottumwa, Iowa, and spent several winters in Manatee County before moving here permanently in 1995 from Mason City, Iowa. He retired as vice president of sales for Mason City Millworks Co. in Mason City. For the past few years, he worked as a real estate appraiser. He was a 1950 graduate of Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was involved in many civic activities in Mason City, which included serving on the Building Codes Committee and as chair of both the Board of Adjustment and Ambassadors. He was a member of the board of the Mason City Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of United Way and the Board of Willows (NIMC). He was president of the board of trustees of United Methodist Church in Mason City. He was a member of Rotary Club, Elks Club and Mason City Country Club. He served in the Army Air Forces from December 1943 to October 1946.

      Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Lewis); and a daughter, Jana Komoto of Walnut Creek, Calif.

      The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Congregational United Church of Christ in Bradenton. Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Cortez Road Chapel, is in charge.
