Edward Luther Sparrow, for twenty years a resident of this city, 804 North Market street, died at the Frederick City Hospital Friday evening at 7 o'clock, after an immediate illness of one week. He was aged 77 years and a son of the late James N. and Elizabeth Virts Sparrow. He was a member of the Centennial Memorial Evangelical U. B. Church and Modern Woodmen of America. He came to Frederick from Hagerstown and operated bowling alleys at Braddock Heights and opened the Recreation Center her in partnership with the late C. G. Baker, later operating the original Arcade bowling alleys which became known as the Health Center. In 1949 he erected the new Arcade bowling center on Route 15, just north of this city. The latter enterprise was sold in 1942 to Roy L. Leatherman. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Flora Toms Sparrow; a daughter Mrs. David E. Derr, near Frederick, a son Roy S. Sparrow, Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. James Gorman, Granite City, Ill. and a granddaughter Miss Catherine Trundle, Baltimore. The body rests at the funeral home 106 East Church street from where the funeral will take place, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in Mt. Olivet cemetery. M. R. Etchison and Son, funeral directors.
