Philip Axtel Rockey, son of Geo. and Clarissa Rockey, was born near Burnsville, Pa. January 7, 1858. He departed this life October 11, 1943 at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 4 days at his home in Russell.

He came to this community in the spring of 1878 where, with the exception of a few months, he spent the remainder of his life.

March 14th, 1883 he was united in marriage to Janie Werts. To this union were born two children. A daughter, Myrtie, who died in 1907 at the age of twenty, the son George Werts Rockey died in infancy. The mother of the children passed away in 1906.

In 1909 Mr. Rockey married May Van Arsdale who died in 1920. In November 1923 he married Mrs. Daisy Fancher, nee Dukes.

As a young man he was on the farm in this vicinity, later working for Eikenberry and Co. in the lumber and grain business. For the past twenty years, before its closing, he was cashier of the Russell State Bank.

In his boyhood in his Pennsylvania home community, Mr. Rockey united with the Presbyterian church. Upon coming to this community he united with the Presbyterian church of Russell and was elected an elder of the church, serving in that capacity for 53 years.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his faithful wife, one sister, Electa Wiltsey of Alliance, Neb., four nephews and three nieces and a multitude of friends.

Only eternity will reveal the results of the good influence upon others by his life lived in our midst for 65 years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon October 13, at the Presbyterian Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. H. Thompson with Rev. A. E. Beals of the Baptist Church assisting. Interment was made in the Russell Cemetery.
